Dr. Joachim P. Akerman (JP)
Like Dr. Sheenan, Dr. Akerman (Dr. P) is a graduate of Tufts University in Boston, where they met. He excelled in many areas of dentistry in school but particularly enjoys restorative dentistry, full and partial dentures, and implant restorations. He, like Dr. Sheenan, focuses on the needs and wants of the patient and he works hard to deliver the best and most affordable care available.
When not at the office “Dr. P” continues his relationship at Belvediere Associates in Belvediere New Jersey, a practice that he has enjoyed working at for almost 25 years.

Hello and welcome to Distinctive Dentistry! I look forward to meeting and helping you during your visits. I’ll be at the front desk to greet you when you arrive. I’ll check you in, help with your paperwork, and submit your dental insurance claims so you don’t need to worry about them. I’ll also help you schedule visits and I will be calling to confirm them, too. I’ve been part of the practice for almost 20 years and treasure the friendships I’ve made and I look forward to getting to know you, too!
I was born and raised in Dunellen and raised my three children here, as well. When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time at the Jersey shore. I also like traveling, cooking for family and friends, and losing myself in a good book.

Hi! I’m here to help you attain and keep a healthy smile. I offer gentle and thorough dental cleanings, take dental X-rays and will screen for oral cancer. During your visit I’ll spend a lot of time talking about your specific oral health and needs. I’ll explain areas of concern and together we’ll figure out the best home oral hygiene program for your needs. We’ll also talk about nutrition and establishing healthy habits. When you come for a recall visit and I see a healthy mouth and smile, I’m thrilled! I joined Distinctive Dentistry in 2005. I’ve met and become friends with many wonderful people. I’m looking forward to meeting and learning about you!
When I go home in the evening it’s to my spouse and our young daughter, Francesca. I enjoy outings to the beach, traveling, and dining in a wide variety of restaurants. If you have a recommendation for a great meal, I’d love to hear it!

I like interacting with our patients on a personal level. The most important part of my work is helping all patients feel welcome, safe, and at ease during their visits, whether I’m working directly with the patients or assisting Drs. Sheenan and Akerman. Our doctors share a dedication to perfection in their work, and that is reflected in the oral health our patients achieve.
I'm originally from Russia, and immigrated to United States in 2007. When I’m not in the office, I spend all my free time with my three-year-old son.
